Various techniques are used to enhance body functions and aid in the healing process.

Also muscle reflex activity is decreased, motor-neuron excitability is inhibited. Massage promotes relaxation and well-being.

Massage involves working and acting on the body with various pressures – structured, unstructured, stationary, or moving. Different tensions, motions and vibrations are performed manually or with mechanical aids. Body tissues manipulated may include muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints, skin, or other connective tissue. Also lymphatic vessels and organs of the GIT are worked on. Massage can be applied with the feet, hands, forearm, elbows, knees and fingers.

Professionally massage involves the client being treated while lying on a massage table or sitting in a special massage chair. Shiatsu style massage can be performed lying on a mat on the floor. In amateur settings a general purpose surface like a bed or floor is common. The massage subject may be fully or partially clothed or unclothed.

There are many modalities of massage to choose from including remedial massage, deep tissue massage, sports massage, therapeutic massage, hot stone massage, Thai massage, raindrop essential oil technique, aromatherapy massage, Swedish massage, craniosacral therapy, reflexology, lymphatic drainage, Shiatsu, trigger point therapy, myofacial release and much more.

Certain modalities relate better to specific ailments or body types. For example a footballer would usually prefer a deep tissue massage. On the other hand an elderly lady may just want lymphatic drainage with slow superficial movements. Some people prefer pampering relaxing massage and others prefer deeper mechanical “fix it” solutions.

Conditions treated include sciatica, neck and back pain, headaches, frozen shoulder, piriformis syndrome, illiotibial band tension, sciatic pain, carpel tunnel syndrome, rotator cuff tendonitis, iliopsoas disorders, shin splints, hamstring injuries, adhesions, repetitive strain injury (RSI), plantar facitiis, whiplash, scar tissue, tendonitis, tingling of the fingers, groin strain, thoracic outlet disorder, tennis elbow and Archilles tendon.

Having massage at regular intervals is a very healthy and enjoyable habit. It is a good routine to get into and helps to keep your fitness level on track. This leads to a more relaxed lifestyle and promotes a keener sense of awareness to deal with all of lifes challenges.
